A Little About Goldendoodles
A Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle. The two breeds were chosen carefully to complement one another. The Poodle was chosen for intelligence &, hypoallergenic coat and the Golden Retriever for its pleasant disposition and strong sense of loyalty. Both are highly intelligent breeds, ranking in the top 5 of the most intelligent dogs.

Golden Doodles take on the traits of both breeds. And just so happens that it’s the best ones. The cross between these two parent breeds make terrific family dogs, friendly, loyal, playful, intelligent, affectionate and easy to train.
They are devoted to their family and friendly towards children, other dogs and pets, and easy with strangers. They are social dogs, happiest when with people. They are very eager to please their owners and family.

Goldendoodles are likely to get into mischief and develop behavioral problems if they spend most of their lives alone. Their intelligence, eagerness to please, and love of learning make them easier to train.

The Goldendoodle inherits the fur qualities of the Standard Poodle in that most do not shed or shed very lightly and may not produce any allergic reaction. The fur texture varies with each pup. You never know how much it will take from the Golden Retriever and how much it will take from the Poodle but the curls you get from the poodle are soft and fluffy like that of Golden’s texture and tend to form a wavy and silky coat. From the golden retriever it receives the pleasant temperament and strong loyalty that are associated with this breed.

DOODS & GENERATIONS
First Generation Goldendoodles  -  F1

A first generation hybrid Goldendoodle is the product of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle.  As first generation hybrids, these dogs have the added health benefits associated to Hybrid Vigour.  This is a phenomenon in animal breeding referring to the fact that the first cross between two unrelated purebred lines is healthier and grows better than either parent line.
Coat Maintenance:  moderate to high care
Coat Description: Coat grows to a natural body length of 3-5 inches which requires combing and occasional grooming. We groom our every 6 weeks or so to keep the fur shorter and easier to maintain.  Coats are usually wavy or curly, with a rare shorter hair coat.
Shedding:  mostly very light to nonshed.  Ours sheds a bit.  Like human hair sheds. Doesn’t stick to clothing and usually only find it when I’m sweeping the floor.
Allergy Friendliness:  usually successful in families with mild allergies. When a family has moderate to severe allergies, a backcross Dood is recommended (F1b).

First Generation Backcross Goldendoodles - F1b
A backcross pup is the result of a hybrid bred back to one of its breeds of origin.  From a genetic standpoint a backcross pup is a first generation cross.  As breeders are breeding towards nonshedding and allergy friendliness, a backcross Goldendoodle is generally the product of a Goldendoodle bred to a Poodle.  The resulting dog is, on average, 1/4 Golden Retriever and 3/4 Poodle. The benefits to this breed are a more hypo-allergenic coat in the Doodle.
Coat Maintenance:  moderate to high care
Coat Description: Coat continues to grow in length although similar in appearance to a first generation Goldendoodle.  Coats are wavy or curly.
Shedding:  very light to non-shed.
Allergy Friendliness:  recommended for families with moderate to severe allergies.
